Braun Supports Driving Skills for Life
Colin Braun Supports Driving Skills for Life, Promotes Teen Safety NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Colin Braun, a rising star in motorsports at age 19, has teamed up with Ford's Driving Skills for Life (DSFL) program and will offer safe driving tips for California teenagers. Vehicle crashes are the number-one killer of teens, claiming the lives of nearly 6,000 annually. Braun, a top-ranked rookie in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driving the No. 6 Con-way Freight Ford F-150 for Roush Fenway Racing, knows the importance of mastering safe driving skills, on and off the track, and is sharing his knowledge with his fellow teens. He will be in the Los Angeles area on Tuesday, June 24, at Hollywood Park in Inglewood, California, to speak to the media about safe driving for teens and give demonstrations in a specially-equipped Mustang skid car. Professional driving instructors will also be on-site to offer advice and demonstrations. Members of the media — and their teen sons and daughters — are encouraged to participate. Braun's appearance occurs a day before the start of the DSFL California Summer Camp, a series of teen driving clinics to be held in Indio Wednesday and Thursday, June 25-26. Teens will receive hands-on training from some of the nation's top professional driving instructors. The national award winning DSFL program is a collaborative effort between Ford Motor Company Fund — the company's philanthropic arm — and the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA). The program strives to lower the number of teen automobile crash fatalities and helps newly licensed drivers develop skills beyond what they learn in driver education programs. It is one of the most comprehensive teen driver safety programs in the nation. Studies demonstrate that teen crash rates decline considerably as young drivers gain experience behind the wheel. Learning how to be a safe driver goes beyond taking a basic driver education course. Teens need time behind the wheel to gain experience. They also need to learn some fundamental techniques. DSFL is a FREE program that helps young drivers improve their skills in four key areas that are critical factors in more than 60 percent of teen vehicle crashes: Hazard Recognition, Vehicle Handling, Space Management, and Speed Management.
